DCBiotech

DCBiotechDCBiotech: Career and Technical Education in Biotechnology. Sponsored in partnership with the DCPS Office of Career and Technical Education and supported in part by the National Science Foundation, this program provides teachers with rigorous content and practical background in biotechnology for grades 11 and 12. Workplace skills in laboratory, Internet, mathematics, and communication are emphasized.

Uniquely, the program integrates professional development for teachers with instruction of students. Pedagogy is modeled by the CASE professional staff. Teachers are introduced to strategies for connecting biotechnology with basics of biology, chemistry, and math aligned with DCPS content standards. Teachers learn techniques to adapt lesson plans including authentic assessments for content and technical achievement.

The program is enriched by field trips and visits that give a first hand look into the biotechnology workplace.
