Example: Three Numbers (an algebra problem)

These kinds of non-routine warm-ups get students excited about mathematics

• Use one each day
• Have students compare and discuss their different methods of solution (there are several possible pathways to the solution)
• These non-routine mathematics problems are differentiated (easy, hard, challenging)

These are the kinds of non-routine problems that get kids excited about math and are therefore good preparation for the SAT9 .
