Advanced Placement Biology has three major themes:
Gain perspective and experience with course content, requirements, laboratory logistics and the examination. |
During this DC ACTS two-week institute, teachers will continue work begun during the one-week College Board-sponsored workshop at Howard University, presented by Sharon Helling, an experienced Advanced Placement Biology teacher.
Each morning, teachers and students will work together conducting the laboratory work as a way to make important concepts of advanced placement biology. concrete and experimental. Students in the program will get a head start on the course for the upcoming year and will gain experience they can continue to apply for developing experimental science fair projects.
Each afternoon, teachers will continue to delve deeper into the course content, discuss ways to better get important points across to students, develop assessments for student learning that prepare them to succeed on the examination and adapt lesson plans and strategies for diverse learners. Teachers will test out the lessons as they work with the participating students.
