Canada canoe trip Ault's voyages: |
[Page 2] I need you night before last Mamie. I was dreaming about you all night. (You know.) Dear girl I am so hungry for you. I just lay there + imagine I can feel your warm body against mine. My. My. Just wait till next fall. I will write more at Cumberland as I can't mail this till the str goes back to Prince Albert. She goes on to the Pas first. Goodbye. Tues. eve. Cumberland House. We arrived yesterday at 2 P.M. Came ashore + met the man here. While we were waiting he had his little girl bring out the tennis racquets + Stewart and I had a game. Bought some moccasins to play in. Then we got our instruments ashore + worked till 11 P.M. Got stars. There are about 4 families of white people here. The H. B. Co's man has a wife + about 6 little children. We are staying with them. We have our canoe + Indian voyagers already. Will start Thurs. morning. It has been very windy + rainy all day today or we might have gotten away tomorrow. Both men speak English + French. Both old + tried voyagers. Have a fine big canoe. 21 ft. long. Room for us to lay down in + take a nap while the men paddle on. Only one thing that may make it unenjoyable + that is the mosquitoes. From all reports they seem to be fierce + get worse as we go north. We are eating moose meat regularly now.
They have two moose youngsters in captivity here. They say the scenery is fine. Beautiful lakes + rivers all the way up. We will likely be able to send you mail once a month. This letter goes back to Prince Albert on the steamer on which we came down. Page 1 | Page 2 | Pages 3 and 4 |
