Excitement ran pretty high as she was about to touch, the remaining chain was paid out allowing her to swing in, just clearing the abutments by a foot. When she had drifted past, to her full length + more, her anchor caught on the breakwater + held. We felt pretty much relieved because we were on the sheltered side + the force of the tremendous seas was broken. One big sea came clear across the breakwater + landed on top of me. I had on my rubber clothes, but the force of the wind + rain was so great that I was pretty wet anyway. It was quite an anxious time while we were drifting back onto the L.H. I stood on the poop-deck all the time watching her, hoping against hope that she would clear it. So as I say we felt pretty secure when we landed inside. But we soon found out that the typhoon was not going to let us off so lucky. During the A.M. + P.M. the wind had worked to the Eastward, in the eve. it backed up + began to come from the NW throwing the Galilee against the sharp edge of the breakwater. Fenders were put over but they availed nothing, Great pieces of timber were crushed in two in short order. At 9 her hold was found to be half full of water and she was sinking rapidly.
