[Page 5] I went back aboard after breakfast and got another suit case full of stuff that I had to have to wear. All else seemed to be safe enough on board. She had settled on a sort of incline + the starboard side was up out of water. She was pumped out + floated about 7 Sat. night. Divers patched her up temporarily. The main holes were in her side + her prow. The projecting ledge of the breakwater (see vert. sect.) cut a long hole in her side (about 10 ft) + she pounded her nose on the sharp corner + steps of the boat landing, breaking her prow for 12-15 ft. It may delay us a couple of weeks. She is in dry dock now being repaired. I spent Sunday down there, cleaning up the instruments that got soaked. I stripped off + went below + unearthed (unwatered rather) the Magnetometer. It was in an awful mess. Salt water seems to eat things right up. A good many of our stores were spoiled. My trunk, etc.
